Philipp Maintz is a German composer who was born in 1977. He received his first composition training in Hanover and went on to study with Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe. After completing his studies, he has gone on to have a successful career as a composer, with works performed and commissioned by orchestras and ensembles around the world.

In 2004, Philipp Maintz was selected to be Composer in Residence at the Knstlerhof Schreyahn in Germany. He has also worked with organ builder Philipp Klais , sound engineer Martin Van Deun and tonal way to continue writing the tradition in the present. Over the years, Maintz's works have been featured and performed in various festivals such as Donaueschinger Musiktage, Paris Autumn Festival, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Archipel Geneva, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Wittener Tage, the Rheingau Music Festival, and Ultraschall Berlin.

Maintz is also known for his collaboration with musicians and various artists, like with the baritone Otto Katzameier, and has received numerous awards such as the sound art prize of the German society for contemporary music, the Ernst von Siemens Composer's Prize. He is well known for his use of dynamics and his distinctive approach to tonality and harmony in his works.
