Peter Josef von Lindpaintner was a German composer who lived from 8 December 1791 to 21 August 1856. He was born in Koblenz, and studied under the famous composer and pianist Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Lindpaintner began his professional musical career as a conductor at the Court Theater in Munich. He went on to become the conductor and director of numerous theaters, including those in Stuttgart, Vienna, and Karlsruhe.

In addition to his work as a conductor, Lindpaintner was a prolific composer. His works include operas, symphonies, chamber music, and vocal works. Lindpaintner wrote over 30 operas, including his most famous work, "Der Vampyr" (The Vampire). It was based on a work by Heinrich August Marschner and the libretto was written by Csar Max Hegel. The opera premiered in 1828 and was a great success, with productions in many countries throughout Europe.

Lindpaintner's music was widely known during his lifetime, and he was respected as a composer and conductor. Despite this, his music was largely forgotten after his death, and it was only in the late twentieth century that his works were rediscovered and recorded. Today, Lindpaintner is remembered as an important figure in German music and as a composer of high-quality, expressive music.
