Paul Manz was a renowned American composer and organist who served the church for many years. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 10, 1919, and showed a keen interest in music at a young age. Manz received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Later, he earned his Doctor of Music degree from Syracuse University.
Paul Manz was passionate about music and dedicated his life to composing, teaching, and performing it. He was widely recognized for his expertise in improvisation and his impressive knowledge of church music. Throughout his career, Manz composed many hymns, choral works, and hymn harmonizations that are still widely used in churches today.
Manz was a faculty member at Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois, where he taught organ and music theory. He was also a Cantor Emeritus at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saint Luke in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, he served as a consultant on church music to the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and was a frequent clinician and performer at national and international music events.
Paul Manz passed away on October 28, 2009, at the age of 90 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, his musical legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians and churchgoers alike.
