Monteclair is best known for his opéra-ballets, which were a popular form of entertainment in France during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His most famous opéra-ballet, "Joueurs et Joueuses," was first performed in 1723 and featured music and dance interludes. Monteclair was praised for his ability to merge popular dance rhythms, such as minuets and gavottes, with the formal structure of operatic music.
In addition to his opéra-ballets, Monteclair composed a number of instrumental works, including sonatas, suites, and trios. He was known for experimenting with instrumentation, and his music often featured unusual combinations of instruments, such as violins, flutes, and bassoons.
