Michel Pignolet de Monteclair was a French composer and musician who lived in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He was born in Andelot-Blancheville, France, in 1667, and began his musical career as a chorister at the Saint-Denis Basilica in Paris. He went on to become a popular composer of opera, ballet, and instrumental music, and his works were widely performed in Paris during his lifetime.

Monteclair is best known for his opéra-ballets, which were a popular form of entertainment in France during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His most famous opéra-ballet, "Joueurs et Joueuses," was first performed in 1723 and featured music and dance interludes. Monteclair was praised for his ability to merge popular dance rhythms, such as minuets and gavottes, with the formal structure of operatic music.

In addition to his opéra-ballets, Monteclair composed a number of instrumental works, including sonatas, suites, and trios. He was known for experimenting with instrumentation, and his music often featured unusual combinations of instruments, such as violins, flutes, and bassoons.

Monteclair's music was highly regarded in France during his lifetime, and he was one of several composers who helped pave the way for the development of the French Baroque style. His compositions remain popular among Baroque music enthusiasts today, and his legacy as a pioneering composer of French opera and instrumental music continues to be celebrated.
