Short bio Michel Philippot
Full biography Michel Philippot
Michel Philippot was a French composer, mathematician, musicologist, and broadcaster. He was born on February 2, 1925, in Verzy, France. Philippot's studies of mathematics were interrupted by World War II , after which he decided to study music instead, first at the Conservatory of Reims and later at the Conservatory of Paris. He graduated with first prizes in analysis and composition.
Aside from his career as a musician, Philippot was also a successful broadcaster, having worked extensively in radio. He was known for his work as an engineer and a writer on electronic music. Despite this, Philippot was considered to be a remarkably conservative musician when it came to instrumentation.
Over the course of his career, Philippot taught a number of notable composers, including André Prévost and Philippe Manoury. He also served as a mentor to Nicolas François and Nicole Lachartre, both of whom went on to have successful careers in music.
Michel Philippot passed away on July 6, 1996, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important composers of his time.
