Full biography Michael Wise
Michael Wise was an English organist and composer born in 1648, and who passed away in 1687. He was known for his sacred music, including anthems and services, which were highly regarded during his time. Wise was a member of the Choir of the Chapel Royal from 1676 to 1687, where he worked closely with other notable composers such as Henry Purcell and John Blow.
Wise's compositions were known for their expressive qualities and intricate harmonies, which were influenced by Italian Baroque music. In addition to his choral works, he also composed for the harpsichord and organ, and some of his instrumental works were published in contemporary collections.
Wise's notable works include his anthem "Blessed are they that fear the Lord," which was a popular composition during his time and is still performed in contemporary choral productions. He also composed a number of services, including his Evening Service in A minor, which is regarded as one of his finest works.
Despite his relatively short life, Michael Wise was a highly regarded composer of his time, and his contributions to English sacred music are still appreciated to this day.
