Leopold Jansa was a Bohemian-born violinist and composer who lived in Vienna during the 19th century. He was born on March 23, 1795 in Wildenschwert, which is now part of the Czech Republic, and he studied with some of the best teachers of his time, including Ignaz Schuppanzigh, Joseph Böhm, and Georg Hellmesberger Sr. Jansa is particularly known for his chamber music works, including his string quartets and quintets.

After the death of Schuppanzigh in 1830, Jansa formed a string quartet with Karl Holz, who had played in Schuppanzigh's quartet, and another member of Schuppanzigh's ensemble named Josef Linke. Together, they played for the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde and became one of the most popular string quartets in Vienna during the 1830s and 1840s.

Aside from his chamber music works, Jansa also wrote a number of virtuosic showpieces for the violin, which showcased his technical skill as a player. In addition to composing and performing, Jansa was also a respected teacher, and his pupils included Wilma Neruda, Stefi Geyer, and Joseph Joachim.

Overall, Leopold Jansa was an important figure in the Viennese music scene during the early 19th century and made significant contributions to the development of chamber music repertoire for string ensembles.
