John Pierre Herman Joubert was a highly regarded British composer ), born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1927. He spent most of his life in the UK, making substantial contributions to British music. He lived in Moseley, a suburb of Birmingham, and was a notable composer of choral works and a beloved figure in the classical music world.
Joubert's career spanned over 70 years, during which time he composed a vast range of works in various genres, including choral music, operas, symphonies, and concertos. His writing style was characterized by its lyricism and accessibility and was highly admired for its sophistication and intricacy.
Joubert's musical career began in his youth, when he started learning the piano at a young age and studied composition in Cape Town. He later moved to London to study under Professor Mátyás Seiber at the Royal Academy of Music. Joubert's music drew influence from a wide range of musical styles and traditions including South African folk music, jazz, and classical works by J.S. Bach and Beethoven.
