Johannes Lupi, born Jean Leleu, was a Franco-Flemish composer who lived between c. 1506 and December 20, 1539. He was a prolific composer who is known to have written numerous motets and chansons. Although he passed away at a young age of 33, Lupi managed to leave behind a significant amount of music, including two surviving masses and over 30 motets.

The composer was also known for his setting of a text by Desiderius Erasmus, which was used in a Dploration by Molinet and then set by Josquin des Prez. Erasmus' mourning text was approached by Johannes Lupi, whose music added a somber tone to the piece.

Lupi's music generally followed the style of the Flemish polyphony of the early 16th century. He was a contemporary of other important composers such as Josquin des Prez and Jean d'Ockeghem, who he may have influenced.

Overall, Johannes Lupi was a significant composer from the Franco-Flemish region whose works contributed to the rich cultural legacy of the Renaissance era.
