Short bio Johann Peter Pixis
Full biography Johann Peter Pixis
Johann Peter Pixis was a German pianist and composer, born on February 10, 1788, in Mannheim. He lived in Vienna from 1808 to 1824 where he was a member of the court orchestra. During his career, Pixis was known for his exceptional skills as a pianist and for his prolific output as a composer.
Pixis' compositions include eight piano trios, a piano quartet, a piano quintet, numerous sonatas, and a large amount of chamber music. He also wrote a number of operas such as "Il Sogno" and "La Vivandière". Pixis was known for being heavily influenced by the operatic style of his time, often writing piano works that were based on operatic themes.
In addition to his own compositions, Pixis was also known for his collaborations with other musicians. For example, he performed piano duets with Felix Mendelssohn and Sigismond Thalberg. He was also a teacher, with his most famous student being Sophie Kaskel, a composer and pianist in her own right.
Despite his achievements, Pixis' music has often been overlooked in comparison to other composers of his time, such as Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin. However, his works are still performed and studied today, and remain an important part of the early-Romantic period of classical music.
