Jiři Pauer was a Czech composer, conductor, and musicologist who was born on August 22, 1919, in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). He was one of the most important figures in the Czech classical music scene during the 20th century and made significant contributions to the development of Czech music.

Pauer received a solid musical education from his father, who was a violinist. He then went on to study at the Prague Conservatory and later continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts, also in Prague. He was a skilled pianist and violinist and participated in numerous concerts as a student.

As a composer, Jiři Pauer was known for his romantic and expressive style, which blended traditional elements of Czech classical music with modern influences. He composed in a variety of genres, including symphonic works, chamber music, operas, and ballets. Some of his most famous pieces include the ballet "The Wedding of Mrs. Poverty," the symphony "Signification," and the opera "The Condemnation of Lucius."

In addition to his work as a composer, Pauer was a respected conductor and musicologist. He conducted numerous orchestras in Czechoslovakia and abroad, including the Czech Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony. He was also a renowned musicologist, and his research into the works of Janacek and other Czech composers helped to shed light on their contributions to the music world.
