James Paisible (1656-1721) was a French composer and flautist who is known for his contributions to the music scene of late 17th and early 18th century England. He served as a member of James II's private musick and played the bass violin in James II's Roman Catholic Chapel. Paisible was also a court composer for Queen Anne and wrote music for several plays and operas, including the music to accompany William Congreve's play "The Way of the World."

Paisible's music was highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was known for his skill in composing music for the flute and other wind instruments. Some of his notable compositions include the Sonata in D major for two recorders, the Trio Sonata in D minor, and the Suite for two flutes and basso continuo.

In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Paisible was also a flute teacher, and he published several treatises on playing the instrument. His works include "The Compleat Flute-Master" and "The Gentleman's Diversion on the Flute."

Despite his significant contributions to the music of his era, Paisible's music fell into relative obscurity after his death. However, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in his work, and his music has been featured in several recordings and performances.
