Hamish MacCunn was a Scottish composer, conductor, and teacher who lived from 1868 to 1916. He was a part of a group of British composers who gained popularity towards the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century.

MacCunn's notable works include his opera Diarmid, which had a libretto by the Marquis of Lome, and his Scottish tone poem "The Land of the Mountain and the Flood", which is still popular and frequently performed today. MacCunn was known for his Romantic style, contrasting bold, grandiose themes with more delicate, lyrical passages.

MacCunn was also a teacher and conductor, and he held the position of Principal of the College of Music in Manchester, England. He was married to Scottish pianist and composer Hilda Erickson MacCunn, who was also known for her work as a music educator.

Although MacCunn's career was relatively short due to his early death at the age of 48, he left a lasting impact on British classical music. His works are still performed and celebrated today, and he is recognized as one of Scotland's most notable composers.
