Short bio Giovanni Picchi
Full biography Giovanni Picchi
Giovanni Picchi was a Venetian composer of the Baroque era, born in 1571 and died in 1643. He was a prominent figure in the musical scene of Venice in the early 17th century, known for his keyboard and vocal music.
Little is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received his musical education at the Venetian school of Giovanni Gabrieli. Giovanni Picchi worked in several churches in Venice as an organist, including the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo and San Zaccaria.
Picchi was known for his instrumental music, particularly for his keyboard works for the harpsichord and organ. His music is characterized by a lively and energetic style, featuring complex harmonies, virtuosic passages, and intricate counterpoint.
His most significant contribution to the world of music was his collection of keyboard music called "Intavolatura di Balli d'Arpicordo," published in 1621. The collection, consisting of 24 pieces for keyboard, featured dances from various regions of Italy, including canzoni, galliards, pavanes, and bergamasques.
Although his music was not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, his works influenced other composers in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Giovanni Picchi's contribution to the development of keyboard music during the Baroque era is still appreciated by musicians and music lovers today.
