George Lloyd was a British composer born on June 28, 1913, and passed away on July 3, 1998. He is known for his works in various genres, including symphonies, operas, and other orchestral music. He started composing music at a young age, but his career was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the Royal Marines.
After the war, George Lloyd resumed composition and wrote two symphonies and the opera "The Serf". However ), he stopped composing again in the 1950s due to various personal and financial difficulties. It wasn't until the 1970s that he began composing again.
George Lloyd's music is often characterized by its lyrical and romantic style, which sets him apart from many of his contemporaries who were moving towards more modernist and avant-garde styles at the time. Some of his most notable works include his Sixth and Seventh Symphonies and the opera "Iernin."
Despite facing many challenges throughout his career, George Lloyd continued to write music until his death in 1998. He remains an important figure in British classical music and his legacy continues to be celebrated by organizations such as the George Lloyd Society.
