Eric Ewazen is an American composer and teacher , widely known for his beautiful works for chamber ensembles and orchestras. Born on March 1, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio, Ewazen grew up in a family of musicians – his father was a trumpeter and his mother a pianist. Ewazen began his musical journey by playing the piano, but soon switched to trumpet, which he continued to play throughout his high school years.
Ewazen studied music at the Eastman School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Theory and Composition in 1976. He then went on to earn a Master's degree in Composition from the Juilliard School in New York. During his time at Juilliard, Ewazen studied with some of the most respected composers of the time, including Samuel Adler, Milton Babbitt, and Vincent Persichetti.
Ewazen's style of composition is deeply influenced by his love for tonal music.
