Doc Pomus, born Jerome Solon Felder on June 27, 1925, was an American blues singer and songwriter who made a significant impact on the music scene during his lifetime. He contracted polio as a child and had to walk on crutches for the rest of his life , which didn't deter him from pursuing a career in music.
Pomus began his career by performing as a blues singer in clubs like the Birdland and the Apollo Theater, but it was his talent for songwriting that truly earned him fame. He collaborated with Mort Shuman to write some of the most iconic songs of the 1950s and 1960s, including "Save the Last Dance for Me," "This Magic Moment," and "A Teenager in Love."
Pomus was a prolific composer, known for his ability to write heartfelt and emotional lyrics that resonated with audiences. He drew inspiration from his own life experiences, including his struggle with polio and his tumultuous romantic relationships, to create songs that touched people's hearts.
Despite his physical limitations, Pomus was able to achieve great success as a songwriter and performer. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, a year after his death on March 14, 1991.
