ZVONAE, JOSEF LEOPOLD

(ft. Kublov, near Prague, 1824 ; d. Prague, 1865), Czech musical pedagogue and composer, director of the Organ School, Prague, and one of the founders of tho famous choral society Hlahol (1801) and the Umeleckd Beseda (Society of Arts). ' Requiems and several humorous choruses, but is more highly valued as a theorist. His chief books were educational. A valuable publication is Monuments of Early Czech Music (1860- 1864), which drew attention to the old contrapuntal school of Bohemian composers. R. N.
