Johan Henrik Freithoff (1713-1767) was a Norwegian-Danish violinist and composer. He was born in Kristiansand, Norway, where his father served as the town musician. Freithoff showed a prodigious talent for music from an early age and began performing in public concerts at a young age.

Freithoff went on to study music in Copenhagen, where he became a member of the Royal Danish Orchestra. He also composed and performed his own music, which was greatly admired by his contemporaries. In addition to his work as a violin virtuoso, Freithoff was also an accomplished composer of chamber music, operas, and cantatas.

Freithoff's music is characterized by its graceful melodies and elegant harmonies, which blend Baroque and Classical elements. He was particularly noted for his sonatas, which were well-suited to the virtuosic and expressive abilities of the violin. Some of his most famous works include the Sonata for Violin and Continuo in G minor and the Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in D major.

Despite his considerable talents and accomplishments as a musician, Freithoff remains relatively unknown outside of the classical music community. However, his contribution to the development of instrumental music in the Baroque and Classical periods remains significant, and his music continues to be performed and recorded to this day.
